Family Favorite Blue Cheese Dressing

Final copyBy Cynthia DeWitte

The blue cheese dressing you can buy in the store is junk. Unless it’s organic, most of it is made with GMO ingredients and a concoction of unhealthy, unnatural ingredients. You can skip that mess and serve your family this all natural GMO and soy free blue cheese salad dressing. Besides on that, according to my family, it’s a delicious gourmet dressing that they can’t get enough of.

Before I developed this recipe, my husband was the only one who liked blue cheese dressing. Since introducing this dressing, my family has suddenly decided they love blue cheese dressing, but not just any blue cheese dressing; specifically this blue cheese dressing. I find myself constantly having to make a new batch because it goes so fast.

One warning, this is not a cheaper alternative to commercial dressing. Considering that this is truly a gourmet dressing and it’s much better for you than store bought, it is well worth it.

Be sure to use honey. Substituting sugar will change this from a creamy, smooth texture to gritty and unpleasant.

4 oz. blue cheeseBlue Cheese Dressing final edit

1/3 cup buttermilk

½ tsp raw honey

1/3 cup sour cream

1/3 cup mayonnaise

1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar

½ tsp garlic

Salt and pepper

In a medium bowl with high sides, crumble blue cheese. Add the buttermilk a little at a time while mixing in with a fork until blended. This can be mixed into a fairly smooth, creamy texture or somewhat chunky, depending on what you like. Add the honey and mix until well combined. Once it is the texture you like add sour cream, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.

If you have a food processor, crumble blue cheese into bowl. Add the remaining ingredients. Pulse until smooth. It only takes a about a minute to make the entire recipe in the food processor.

Serve immediately and store in the refrigerator.
