Spring is here! Which means that everyone everywhere is breaking out the bright floral patterns. Bright, huge floral prints were a huge trend in 2014’s spring fashion week. Floral pencil skirts are huge this season which is great because I LOVE floral print. In fact, my fabric stash is almost entirely comprised of florals. Designers are selling pencil skirts like this one from Milly for $325.00!
The issue for me is, I don’t have $325.00 to spend on a pencil skirt. So my solution was to create my own from my massive floral fabric stash! This skirt was easy and fun to make. All I did was modify a dress pattern and only use the pencil skirt piece and add the waistband. With a skirt this bold, the rest of the outfit needed to be simple so that it wasn’t overwhelming.
I paired the skirt with a simple, light pink top and open knit cardigan. Just add some jewelry and simple accessories and you’ve got yourself a trendy, classic outfit ready for these kinda-rainy, kinda-sunny spring days!
The fabric and notions were given to me, so technically the skirt was free but it could cost around $20.00 to make yourself. The cardigan, pink top, and bag were purchased on thrift but you can find similar items at virtually any clothing store that sells basic wardrobe staples.
Here’s a similar cardigan on Amazon.com. The full cost of my outfit was probably about $60.00 but could have easily been over $500.00 if I had bought everything new including my Dooney and Bourke bag and the floral skirt. By Tabitha Concepts: Designer quality spring floral pencil skirt can be sewn for far less than buying a designer skirt. Be in style and looking good for less money.
